Acquiring an address (or a domain name) is easy, and it is usually pretty cheap (around $20 per annum). Domains are grouped by Top-Level Domain or TLD which is essentially a segmentation of the name space. For example, is not the same domain name as or Therefore you may wish to buy multiple domain names to secure your online identity. Alternatively, it may be the case the somebody already owns the .com address, but the .org address is available. There are some rules about who can purchase certain domains, but generally there is quite a bit of flexibility.

There are many organizations which sell domains - the one we currently use is DomainsAtCost. They have a search page if you wish to check the availability of your desired address - it will report availability across as range of TLD's. Alternatively we can do this for you, at cost.
