Playwrights Guild of Canada

Client Description:

PGC was established in 1972 as the Playwrights Co-op. The main purpose was to publish and distribute scripts to encourage more productions of Canadian plays. Since then, it has grown and now provides programs and services for playwrights across the country.

Project Objective:

The Playwrights Guild had a clunky site and database that was cobbled together to provide an online venue for browsing playwrights and their plays; learning about upcoming events, and purchasing plays. The site and database was difficult to maintain and needed an overhaul.

Solution:

We implemented a new site, using a clean and attractive design, provided to us by Able Creates.

We cleaned up a complicated set of playwright and play information from their old, custom database before importing it into the Drupal Content Management system where we created content types to map to the fields they required. Once the data was imported, we could easily set up various Views to display the information in a better format. By using Drupal's built-in content types, we were also able to use the Ubercart online store module to provide the public a way to purchase the plays.

Some related Ubercart modules allowed us to make various customizations to the purchasing process to allow for PGC's specialized needs, such as for bulk discounts.

We also provided additional data administrative views to help PGC easily review, change, and delete existing content.

In the future we hope to integrate the PGC site with a back-end file/tracking system and provide a more robust data relationship with contacts.
